Book Club: The Alchemist by Paul Coelho.

Paulo Coelho’s The Alchemist  follows a metaphorical format and depicts a tale that speaks to the yearning of every soul to find its purpose, its Personal Legend. 

We follow a shepherd boy who dreams of discovering treasure, embarking on a journey that is both intimate and universal. His path winds through deserts and marketplaces, filled with signs, omens, and encounters with people who help him uncover the deeper truths of existence.

It is a metaphor in that it calls us to reflect on our own lives and purpose. What is our treasure? 

 

What is a Personal Legend?

At the heart of The Alchemist is the concept of the Personal Legend—our soul’s unique mission, or the reason we're here.  To seek our purpose is to engage in a sacred act of co-creation with the universe.

It’s easy to ignore our inner voice, in fact, we are taught to from a young age, tamed and told off for the things that our innocent hearts wish to pursue. Unrelenting as we grow, taught that we can't leave a job that we hate for the sake of stability, or that it's not practical to spend days immersed in something that sets our hearts ablaze. Yet, The Alchemist reminds us that the heart knows the way, even when the path seems uncertain.
