Book Club: The Four Loves by C.S. Lewis.

Today I want to speak a little bit about The Four Loves, a timeless masterpiece. I believe that it is more than a book, but rather an invitation to explore the multifaceted beauty of human relationships and the divine threads that bind them. In his eloquent prose, Lewis dissects love into four categories: affection, friendship, eros, and charity.

This book resonates with those seeking a deeper understanding of themselves and the connections they forge. It speaks to the soul, encouraging readers to reflect on the ways love shapes their lives, their spirituality, and their purpose. For seekers of light and truth, The Four Loves is a guide to nurturing bonds that are not only meaningful but transformative.

Love is always a form of spiritual practice.

In The Four Loves, Lewis shows us that love is not merely an emotion but a spiritual practice. Through pure-hearted affection, we learn the art of giving without expectation. In friendship, we discover the joy of shared purpose and mutual growth. Eros teaches us vulnerability, while charity, the highest form of love, calls us to transcend self-interest and embody divine compassion.

This perspective is my favourite, as it is deeply grounding, or humbling, and it urges us to view our relationships as sacred opportunities to reflect the divine, to give and receive grace, and to align our hearts with something greater.

Much like how a crystal reflects and refracts light, love allows us to illuminate the lives of others. At Golden Earth Jewellery, our collection of crystal jewellery serves as a reminder of this. Crystals have been cherished for centuries as symbols of love, healing, and balance. Wearing them keeps us rooted in the energy of connection and intentionality, aligning with the spiritual principles that The Four Loves so beautifully articulates.

The divine law of giving and receiving.

One of the most profound lessons in The Four Loves is the balance between giving and receiving love. It’s easy to fall into patterns of imbalance, either overextending ourselves or guarding our hearts too tightly. Lewis encourages readers to let love flow freely—like a river that nourishes both the giver and the receiver.

This wisdom can also apply to the way we interact with the natural world and its treasures. Just as we must give love selflessly, we must also receive its gifts with gratitude. A crystal pendant or bracelet from Golden Earth Jewellery is a small but potent symbol of this cycle—offering us a tangible reminder of the harmony we seek to embody.

Love transcends.

The Four Loves leads us to charity. It leads us to the selfless, divine love that transcends all earthly connections. It is in this love that we find our spiritual fulfillment, our highest calling. Through charity, we come to understand that love is infinite, unbounded, and eternal.

This transcendence is echoed in the spiritual qualities of crystals, which have long been used as tools for meditation and connection to higher realms. Wearing a crystal piece from Golden Earth Jewellery can serve as a touchstone for those moments when you need to realign with the universal energy of love and compassion.

Bringing this into the now.

In an age of fleeting connections and digital distractions, The Four Loves shows us what it means to love deeply and truly. It shows us the joy of slowing down, reflecting, and prioritising the relationships that nourish our souls.

For anyone seeking a deeper connection with themselves, others, and the divine, this book is an amazing spiritual companion, and one that tends to be overlooked by some due to its Christian roots. But those who have no inclination to read it, in my opinion, are really missing out. Give it a try if you have time.

And for those drawn to the energy of the earth and its natural gifts, incorporating crystal jewellery into your daily life is a beautiful way to stay mindful of love’s presence in every moment.

Regardless, let love, in all its forms, guide your way.
